Home Sweet Home

'Tis the college season, my friends! I hope everyone has started their fall semester off strong with their best friend reunitements, excitement for college sports and parties, and so much more! But as school starts back up, so does the stress. School stress has already started for me, but it has reminded me what I miss about home. to To all those who have just started college or those who are feeling a little homesick, a.k.a. me, here are 7 things that I have learned to appreciate more after leaving home:

1. Home-cooked meals

Don't you miss coming home from a long and stressful day of school and being able to eat food that isn't prepared in the microwave for 3 minutes? I know I am. I'm already getting tired of eating cup noodles every week.

2. Your pets

Who misses having a cuddle session with their pets?! I know I do! They definitely know how to cheer you up when you're sad or stressed.

3. Your favorite hometown restaurant

For me, I really miss Islands, which is a Mexican restaurant down the road for me. Their $1 tacos would always hit the spot for me anytime I was hungry!

4. Your favorite getaway spot (ex: the beach)

Where I'm from, I live about 10 minutes away from the beach. Anytime the weather was nice or just wanted to go somewhere to relieve stress, it would be the place to be. Now, I have to drive over 2 hours just to go. This is definitely something that took me awhile to appreciate, but every time I'm home, I am definitely happy to go!

5. Your bed

I can definitely tell you that my back is missing my own bed. I almost forgot how awful college mattresses are.

6. Your boyfriend/girlfriend

If you go to college with your boyfriend or girlfriend, then you are very fortunate. Long distance is definitely a pain in the a**, which I will never get used to, but it does give you a little "me time" to do whatever you want. I will say, it does suck being 2 hours away, knowing you can't be with them whenever you're feeling down in the dumps or wanting to go out to a restaurant. I will always cherish each time I'm with my boyfriend, whether it's 15 minutes or 15 days.

7. Your parents

Sometimes, or most of the time, your parents can be pretty annoying, but at times like this you learn how pretty amazing they are. Being able to provide you in order to help you grow and prosper in life, whether it's advice or or college tuition, helps you appreciate the little things in life from them.

Sometimes, college can suck, but just know that everyone of you are not alone! It's okay to feel sad or whatever feeling you are feeling, but know that this feeling won't last forever and that you will be home soon. You are only a phone call away!
