You Are Just As Important.

As school gets rolling, we often get caught up in the whirlwind of it all. We have papers to write, tests to study for, homework to do, and a social life to have. Feeling as though we need to do everything at once, one might get a little stressed. Although we all want to be Wonder Woman we have to remember one important thing: Your mental health is just as important.
Now, I'm not saying you should just drop everything on the spot and hide away from the world. I'm saying you should remember to take time for yourself.
Yes, good grades are important to maintain. Yes, it is important to be a great friend and family member. But we need to care about ourselves just as we do those things.
To begin, breaks are essential to the studying process.
When studying, you have to realize how much sleep is an imperative step to the process. Sleeping gives your brain time to process all of the information you have reviewed. Sleeping gives you time to recuperate so you don't run your batteries dead. Spacing out your study times and taking frequent breaks has the same effect. Studying for a long period of time without stopping may be doable, but after a certain point are you really paying attention anymore? Maybe you're someone who frequently crams before a test to learn everything you can. To that I say: If you don't know it by now, you're never going to know it. Why sacrifice hours studying something you're only going to forget two minutes after the test? For me, I like to space things out a week in advanced. Maybe the first few days I'll learn vocabulary for an hour or so each day. Then I might move on to reviewing power point slides the next day. Then the next, my own notes. The last couple of days, I'll do a full overview. These days are also used to tack down those hard to memorize concepts. By going over things earlier, you know what you need to work on and therefore spend the adequate amount of time on what you really need to review. And if I know I'm going to be spending an entire day studying, I place plenty of breaks throughout the day.
Remember that you can do anything for a break. Watch a YouTube video, make yourself a cup of tea, go for a walk, draw a little... Do whatever gives your mind a break. Take that stress away by doing something you genuinely enjoy.
Not only that, but you don't need to be doing everything all at once.
Again I am not saying being busy is a bad thing, but you shouldn't wear yourself thin. It is okay to not want to go out. It is okay to want to pamper yourself and have a night where you can just gather your thoughts. You don't have to please everyone. As a matter of fact, it is impossible to please everyone. But you can make yourself happy and you can enjoy the time you spend doing the things you love. Taking time for yourself is just as precious as taking time for others. Get to know yourself. It may sound stupid, but some people find it difficult to deal with their own problems. Sometimes you just need to take a breath and take some time to think. Process things on your own terms for your own sanity. But then again, who doesn't need a good rant every now and then?
Lastly, everything is always worse at night.
When your world is crashing and everything seems to be going wrong... Go to bed. You're tired. It has been a long day. You need to sit on things. You need to start a fresh. Your heart may be breaking tonight but the sun will rise again. So next time when you feel like nothing could get any worse, know that tomorrow is a new day. Be comforted in the fact that each day ends and a new one begins. Take comfort in knowing you can start again.
As someone who struggles with anxiety, doing these things for myself becomes life itself. I want to be able to live my life to the fullest and I want to be the best person I can be, but I can't do that if I don't take care of myself. I can't be that amazing friend, family member, or student if I don't put myself first. I am just as important as everyone else. YOU are just as important as everyone else. Never forget that.
I hope this helps at least one person. I hope that one person will read this and know that they're not alone.
Take care of yourself and continue to be amazing, my lovelies.
